Full Professor and Researcher at the Applied Computer Science Department of the Institute of Informatics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil.
I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science (PPGC/UFRGS, Brazil, 2004), an MS.C. in Computer Science (PPGC/UFRGS, Brazil, 1999), and a BS.C. in Computer Science (UCPEL, Brazil, 1996).
Since 2024, I serve as Head of the Department of the Applied Infomatics Department (DEP-INA) at INF/UFRGS. From December 2020 to September 2024, I was the Secretary for Distance Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Between January 2017 and January 2020, I was the head of the Interdisciplinary Center for New Technologies in Education (CINTED) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
My research activities include Information Retrieval, Extraction, and Mining; Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG); LLM applications; Recommender Systems; Data Science and Learning Analytics; and Machine Learning and Data Mining (more specifically, unsupervised learning applied to textual data).
